Additionally, all competitors compete at their own risk and the City of Wells Lions Club carries no liability if there is an injury to a third party on the water. |
| If junior team members are required to complete additional paperwork, responsible adult’s (eg CO, platoon commander etc) signature may be used, and a copy of the completed forms attached. | Weils Disease Please read The infection is caught with infected animal urine (mainly rodents, cattle or pigs), generally in contaminated water and typically enters the body through cuts or scrapes, or the lining of the nose, mouth, throat or eyes. Only a few patients experience the severe, life-threatening illness known as Weils disease, thought to kill two or three people a year in Britain. After an incubation period that can vary three days to three weeks, most patients suffer severe headaches, red eyes, muscle pains, fatigue, nausea and a temperature of 39˚C or above, in roughly a third of cases there is a skin rash, sometimes hallucinations. According to British Rowing, the risk of contracting Weils disease from recreational water in the UK is “very small”. Anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms after contact with fresh water should immediately see their doctor. |
